Shelly Finnegan
Title: Actress, Stuntwoman
Profession: Arts and Entertainment
I am authentic Bostonian woman that does acting and my own stunts and fight scenes. My goal in life is to work along side Jackie Chan.
EDUCATION | I don't have training in acting . I just go out and do it.
HOW TO GET STARTED | Be careful pursuing stunt work, if you have your heart set on doing it, be advised that stunts and fight scenes are physical and you could fall down or get hit in the head. Also you must have the desire. With acting, I say: You have nothing to lose so go for it!
MUST HAVE TRAITS | Creative, Careful, Big Personality, Driven
beginnings
how I got started | Long story short, I was with a guy for 10 years, after he left me, I stepped into a Dojo and it helped me with my self-esteem (which led to my love of doing my own stunts), in addition, people told me to pursue acting because I have a big personality. So, I went to dinner theater and my career took on a life of it's own. The beginning was hard because I wasn't content to just be an extra, I wanted to do more and now there are more opportunities for me. I have been in "Joey and Maria's Wedding", I played a bridesmaid, and then I moved on to the "Claddagh Bing". I'm an originial cast member of the "Claddagh Bing" and I play a bridemaid on stage, it's hilarious; I come out with these nun-chucks and surprise the audience.

inspiration
why this job?| I had this innate desire, big time, to be an Actress. I've always wanted to do it but I was afraid, once I mustered up the confidence I just went for it and have been doing it ever since.

love
why I love this job!| I love the freedom of expression. I have never been so happy, I love that I am so happy. I love my dream, the chance to someday work with my idol Jackie Chan.

work
my typical day| It depends on the day or month. If it's a big film and I'm an extra, I just go. Dinner theater is once or twice a month, I know the parts pretty well so there is not a lot of rehearsal. But with acting outside of my dinner theater roles, it depends, my month to month really varies, right now I'm doing community-theater a couple times a week. I am in Charlie and the Chocolate factory; and we rehearse 3 times a week, and perform on the weekends.

challenges
what they are | Sometimes you can get over looked. Men tend to get more parts then women for stunts. With acting, the challenge was my Boston accent, now with the movie industry picking up in Boston, I am finding roles that fit me left and right, it's great!

upside
all about growth | There is more demand because there are more roles for women out there, if people are more open-minded you can get roles. I really could be a full time working actress it just takes luck and hard work, and that one big break.
