Profession: Business Owner
It was always a passion of mine to have my own business where I could balance this with my home life. I grew up traveling and developed my passion for the outdoor adventures at an early age. As Owner and Director of Business Development for iTraveltrip I am responsible for growing the company, developing its staff and positioning it for the emerging travel markets of the future. iTraveltrip specializes in Outdoor Travel, Domestic and Cruise travel.
EDUCATION |
HOW TO GET STARTED | This profession is easy to get into. I found a website by a stay at home mom that wanted to start her own business and she succeeded, so she decided to share her knowledge with others like me. The Agency had a support system set up where other agents could help one another when tasked with questions or trips they did not have much knowledge about. Start-up costs are very minimal, but you have to do your home work: Education classes, certifications (mostly free when learning about different destinations) and getting certified to get your own credentials. You will need a website to market your company and business cards. There are so many websites out there that offer FREE ways to get started. Most people think that customers will simply just knock on your door and when they do not, they give up. With Travel, everyone has to go travel at some point in their life. How hard is it to talk about travel and pass out your business card?

why this job?|

love
why I love this job!| I love owning my own business and the flexibility it brings to juggling my home life and work. It can however have its moments, but it is still exciting! The Travel business is rewarding, as I am able to show my customers how fun it is to discover new roads to travel.

challenges
what they are | The hardest part is the time it takes and the wasted time. You do a lot of research and sometimes people never seem to know what they really want to do with so many choices in front of them. I just take it with stride and chalk it up as a learning experience. Find tune what I did, and make my process of doing my job faster and more efficient. Discovering new avenues and bumps in the road only makes this journey more rewarding.

upside
all about growth | The travel business can be very lucrative. You have to really educate yourself on destinations and get organized. Once your phone rings and people ask questions, you really have to know what you are talking about. Luxury Travel and Cruises tend to be where the commissions can double and are most traveled. My advice: find a niche and stick with it. Do not try and do to much or you will be in overload and all over the place. If you like Luxury Travel, sell this and learn all you can about this area. Market to everyone, not just wealthy people because sometimes they tend be the most frugal. Use the internet to your advantage, there is a wealth of information out there.
