beginnings
how I got started | I have always really enjoyed learning about
science and medicine and had always been interested in doing research. I
applied to some positions at Hopkins, interviewed and fit really well
with the team. One important thing to note is that although the
interview goes well, the aspect of team is really important in research.
If for some reason you do not fit into the group, you will not be
hired.
inspiration
why this job?| This career choice was a stepping-stone to get
into a good graduate program for public health, which is ultimately what
I wanted to pursue.
love
why I love this job!| I love interacting with People from all
walks of life. (It's inner city Baltimore and I meet a lot of
interesting people.) I also love helping people through my research and
analyzing data to further medical studies.
work
my typical day| I go into the office and look up eligible
participants for studies that are at the hospital that day. I put
eligible participants into a database with information and go recruit
and consent participants. Daily, I work on creating databases for
different studies and collect data from other studies. In the afternoon,
I usually go back to the hospital with a list of eligible participants
and consent. I am in charge of making sure units are in order and the
staff is following protocol.
challenges
what they are | You always have to be on task. There cannot be mistakes with data entry or the study is blown... and you get fired...
upside
all about growth | There is definitely a ladder to climb; the
next step would be to become a Program Coordinator. However, to get
higher up you would need a graduate degree.
