5 Must-Read Career Blogs
Whether you're searching for your first full time job or charting a new career path, you'll find plenty of practical information online. But with over one hundred million blogs vying for attention in cyberspace, choosing which ones to read poses quite a challenge. Here Career Apple shares its five favorite career blogs, which all offer useful advice in short, readable posts.

Career Hub was created by Louise Fletcher, president of Blue Sky Resumes, and it includes career advice from over a dozen experts ranging from brand strategists to resume writers to career coaches. With a wealth of information on career exploration and goal setting, the blog includes posts on understanding your work style, allowing your personality to shine through in an interview setting, sending professional emails, and more.

Brazen Careerist by Penelope Trunk is every bit as direct and evocative as the name suggests. Penelope Trunk has founded three startup companies and contributed career advice to The Boston Globe, Yahoo! Finance, and many other publications. Her no-nonsense, no holds barred approach takes conventional career advice such as "a graduate degree will help you get ahead" and turns it inside out, sparking lively debate among her thousands of readers. Trunk also covers topics like entrepreneurship, office politics, personal development, and juggling parenting with a full time job.

On JibberJobber's blog, JibberJobber founder and online networking expert Jason Alba sounds off on job search strategies, social networking, and personal branding. Alba's posts are thoughtful and highly personal with plenty of anecdotes from his experiences getting laid off and starting his own business. He stresses that while there is no silver bullet for finding a job (especially in this market), there are a number of ways for job seekers to differentiate themselves by building their personal brand and their network online and in person.

Water Cooler Wisdom by Alexandra Levit, author of They Don't Teach Corporate in College and How'd You Score That Gig?, covers career-related topics like work/life balance, lay-offs, and productivity. Much of her advice centers on Generation Y: how companies can recruit and retain younger workers and how these young workers can navigate office life. But workers at all levels will find her blog timely and informative.

life@work by Seattle-based career coach Heather Mundell covers career topics like work/life balance, interviewing for jobs, handling career fairs, and choosing a career coach. It also discusses career-related news and provides links to interesting posts on other career blogs. The dominant theme of Mundell's blog is achieving balance and finding career satisfaction even in a competitive job market. She encourages readers to stay focused on their goals and remain realistic without getting too wrapped up in the news.

Susan Johnston is a Boston-based freelance writer who has covered career topics for publications such as The Boston Globe, Experience.com, Yahoo! HotJobs, and WomenEntrepreneur.com. Read more at www.susan-johnston.com.
